Just as the Mediterranean diet can be beneficial to people anywhere for its health promoting effects, so can the Nordic Leadership approach benefit leaders and employees in any country. By borrowing some of the tools used in the Scandinavian countries, like empowerment and delegation of responsibility, inclusive, participatory decision making, collaboration and working towards a shared goal based on values and ethics, fair and equal treatment of all employees alongside an expanded stakeholder definition, American leaders can utilize these Nordic strategies and methods in addition to their existing ones in order to improve engagement, productivity, retention, innovation, agility and other important factors in an organization.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the foundational principles of Nordic Leadership.
  2. Recognize the roles that leadership and government policy play in consistent top placement in World Happiness Report as well as engagement, productivity and innovation.
  3. Recognize several ways in which these principals may be applied in a US context in organizational, team and leadership development.
