Mary Coussons-Read

Mary Coussons-Read, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita of Psychology at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and the President of the Society for Psychologists in Leadership. Mary is a seasoned health psychology researcher, teacher and mentor, an experienced academic and organizational leader, and a certified professional coach. During her academic career, Mary excelled as a faculty member and held leadership positions as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, and Provost. She currently serves as Faculty Relations Manager for UCCS, providing mediation, conflict management, and leadership training and career coaching for faculty at all career levels. Mary received her PhD in Psychology and Neurobiology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and completed postdoctoral training in Biopsychology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine prior to embarking on her 30+ year career as a faculty member. Her research has been funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, the American Lung Association, and the National Institutes of Health, and she has authored more than 80 scholarly publications. She is active in her community, serving the El Paso County Democratic Party, the ACLU, the American Red Cross, and Goodwill Industries.
